Managed IT

10 questions to ask before hiring a managed IT provider in San Antonio

Search for "managed IT services San Antonio" and you'll find dozens of providers that all promise proactive support and strong security. These questions help you see past the marketing and pick a provider that fits a small business. Ask every provider you talk to, including us.

Support and response

  1. What are your response times, in writing? Ask how fast they respond to an urgent issue versus a routine request, and whether that's in the contract.
  2. Who actually answers when we call? A local technician who knows your setup, or an overseas queue?
  3. Can you come on site, and how fast? Remote support fixes most problems, but sometimes you need someone in the office. Ask how far they travel and what it costs.
  4. What happens after hours? Is 24/7 support included, optional, or not offered?

Security

  1. What security is included by default? At minimum, look for MFA, endpoint detection and response, email filtering, patching and backups.
  2. Who watches the alerts at 2 AM? Software alone isn't enough. Ask whether a security operations center (SOC) monitors around the clock.
  3. How do you back up Microsoft 365, and when did you last test a restore? Many businesses learn too late that Microsoft 365 isn't backed up by default.

Contract and cost

  1. What exactly is in the monthly price, and what's billed extra? Projects, onsite visits, new computers and after-hours work are common add-ons.
  2. How long is the contract, and how do we leave? A good provider should hand over passwords, documentation and admin access without a fight.
  3. Can we talk to two current clients who are our size? Recent, local reviews on Google tell you a lot too.
